Compliment?

I tried on a dress the other day and Lewis said, "Wow, you look way beautiful. You look beautiful, just like your daddy." Now, I think my father is great, but I just don't know if I can take that as a compliment.

Soccer Season Begins

The season has officially begun. After a couple weeks of practice and a rained out game last week, the boys had their first game tonight. Unfortunately, Owen got sick in school today and wasn't able to play. He was a very disappointed boy! But it was fun watching Carter and his friends.

My New Link

Ever since I saw Sandra Bullock in Speed when I was in my late teens, she has been one of my faves. A couple years later, when I saw her in what is still my very-favorite-movie-ever-of-all-time, While You Were Sleeping, she became the undisputed number one in my list of favorite actors. Once upon a time, when I was a twenty-something college student, some people even told me I resembled her, which of course, just made me like her more.

I don't watch a lot of TV or read many magazines, (aside from This Old House, which I pretty much read from cover-to-cover every month), so I don't really know the details of the yuck that's going on in her life, except what I read on magazine covers in the grocery store as I set my purchases on the conveyor belt. But I do know that she is still my favorite actress, and will probably always remain so.

So, what does this have to do with "My New Link?" Well, I don't even remember exactly how I came across it, but the master baker - Gesine Bullock Prado, happens to be Sandra Bullock's sister, and she happens to have some very yummy looking things on her blog. Now if you know me at all, you know that I do not claim to be a cook or a baker. I cook out of necessity. (One of the few things I enjoy making is fun birthday cakes for my children - Ask me about the hot pink hearse - one of my best creations. ) In fact, given the choice between cleaning the bathroom and making dinner, the bathroom would win - hands down.

But I decided that I am going to follow her blog, even though I would prefer to scrub a shower over a pot or a pan. Besides, my husband keeps on making things off of the Pioneer Woman's blog, so I decided I'm going to follow a food blog of my own. So there. Who knows, I may even decide to try to make one of her recipes someday.

A Few Lewis Quotes

Lewis came up the stairs crying the other night and said, "Onie, hit me." I asked, "Were you being a pain in the behind?" He answered, "Yes" and then turned around and went back down to play with Onie.
.
At the gas station when a guy on a motorcycle pulled up beside us - "Who that guy? He's creepy."
.
When he woke up from a nap one afternoon - "A frog jumped in my eye and ate me."
.
At lunchtime after prom Sunday at church - "Mara wears fancy clothes."

The Call of the Wild

It's nights like these that make me not want anyone to buy our house. The trees in our backyard are one of the best natural playgrounds I can imagine. My quickly growing boys have spent many many hours climbing, digging and building forts in these trees.

Dirt + Boy = HEAVEN

I never would have guessed when we moved into our house that the lot next to us would still be empty today. The boys spend tons of time playing in the weeds and dirt. And after such a long Iowa winter, we all appreciate the weeds and the dirt.
