I Love a Good Movie

Most of the people who know me, know that my all-time favorite movie is While You Were Sleeping. I watch it about once a year, and if I had three little girls instead of three little boys, I'm quite certain I would have been able to wear down Corey's resolve, and he would have let me name one of them Lucy. I think it's a wonderful name; Corey, not so much.
.
Anyway, Corey took me to a movie last night that ranks right up there with my favorite. The Proposal is EXCELLENT. My favorite movie of the decade for sure. (I realize that I risk raising someone's expectations by saying that, and they will go to the movie and completely disagree, but oh well.) It is not often that you can go to a romantic comedy that is clean and funny. Aside from a few comments here and there and a really humorous scene that shows a fairly significant amount of flesh, it was clean as can be. There were a lot of great moments and one-liners and physical silliness, and you end up loving the characters. I'm not a movie reviewer, but I definitely recommend this one. Only a small handful of movies make it to my "Worth paying the full price list." This is one of them.

It is virtually impossible to discipline a child when you can't keep a straight face while looking at him.

This Ain't No Love Train

There's a new girl in town, and she has been a recent object of jealousy in my life. She is a beauty, and she steals the stage each night at VBS. I'm talking about a shiny new 24 (?) foot train that overtook my garage and my husband's spare time this last month. Between building it, painting it and driving it around on a trailer on the back of his truck to get video footage for VBS skits, the "Boomerang Express" is getting more quality time with him than me, and I can handle that temporarily, but that doesn't mean I'm not jealous.
Don't get me wrong, VBS has been wonderful, and the dramas have been a hit! The kids love it, and are excited to go each night. The gospel message is clearly presented. There are lots of people loving on my kids. That makes me happy. But the train. Oh, the train...Let's just say, once it leaves the station, I don't want to see it again.

Three Boys on a Boat

The big boys were good sports and went on a bunch of the little rides with Lewis at Adventureland. Here they are on the Infant Ocean.

ADVENTURELAND

Yey! My kids all three loved Adventureland. That means we can be an amusement park family. They all went on ride after ride. The Raging River (above) was one of the first ones we went on. It took a little while for Owen to be talked into going on the Dragon (because it goes upside-down), but after he tried it, he and Carter went on it three times in a row. There was no line, so they didn't even have to get out. I made it on the first two trips with them, but my body told me to get off the ride before the third time.
.
A boy after my own heart! Cotton candy has always been a favorite treat of mine. It is also a favorite of Carter and Owen. They both devoured a bag pretty quickly.

Always adjust the mirrors before taking off.

Lewis loved this little ride. He would have just stayed on if we had let him.
.

The boys all took a trip on the merry-go-round at the end of the evening. I'm confident we got our money's worth. We were there shortly after the gate opened and left a half hour before it closed.
.

Grandma and Grandpa Nelson went with us, which was wonderful, because it allowed Corey and I to go on the roller coasters with the boys while they hung out with the little man. Grandma and Grandpa can also be thanked for the frogs in the photo. Owen was determined to play a game. We found one that you win every time you play. They all got colorful frogs. These ones are much cuter than the toads in my garage.
.
What a wonderful day trip! Next stop Disney!! Well, maybe not "next stop" but I am getting pretty close to halfway to my goal on ebay of making enough money for a Disney trip.

Outside Mama?

Lewis came up to me in his diaper and crocs and asked, "Outside, Mama?" I told him he had to have clothes on to go outside. He went into the other room and came back with a hat on, which he thought qualified as clothes to go outside in.

Abstract Art and Clay Sculpture

You can't create a masterpiece like this without getting your hands a little messy (and your ears, and your belly, and your shorts...)
.

Owen's art project for the day was a clay dog who is sitting on his hind legs. He formed it. I dried it out in the oven, and then he painted it brown and black. It's actually pretty cute.

The Vase

"That vase looks like it's a little too big for the shelf (mantel)." A direct quote from my middle son. He is the same boy who told me red is his worst color after I put a red mat in a frame that I had one of his photos in. He will go get as dirty in the creek as the rest of them, and dig up worms to feed his toads, but he loves to draw pictures to hang around the house, he likes his hair to be just so and he has strong opinions about what clothes he's going to wear. You gotta love him!!

A Motley Crew

In age order these are some of my favorite little menfolk. Carter 7 and 10/12ths, Caleb 6 and 11/12ths, Owen 6 and 2/12ths, Aiden 4 and 8/12ths, Ethan 2 and 10/12ths and Lewis 2 and 1/12th. I was pregnant with Carter when I met Marty. As you can see, one or the other of us has been pregnant for a significant amount of the time that we have been friends. We have quite the brood of boys!!

Quite Possibly...

Morning Hike

There is a cool little hiking trail on the east edge of town that the boys and I explored this morning. I filled my backpack with drinks and snacks. Carter filled his with balls. We had a fun morning of running and climbing and picking up sticks. The boys even obliged my incessant picture taking, and I got a lot of cute ones!

Never ever leave home without your soccer ball.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and this picture so accurately describes Lewis - a blur!! When he's awake, he's on the go!!!

Last Day of School

It's on to second grade and first grade for my boys. I guess I can say I've got two school veterans now that they've both completed the all important year of kindergarten. They both had a great year, and really liked their teachers. Owen judged the quality of his day by what type or craft or art project they did. Carter judged his by how well he played soccer/kickball on the playground. Now we're ready for a fun-filled summer of swimming, playing in the creek, eating popsicles, camping, going to see the grandmas and the grandpas, filling the basement with gigantic forts....
