Meet NEWO

Owen has always wanted a pet. I've been happy to let Carter and him keep frogs, toads, salamanders and even a few snakes in garage aquariums, but this is the first time I've allowed a non-human creature into our home. He really wants a dog, but he seemed happy to settle for a fish. His name is Newo. That's not a typo. Nemo is a clown fish. Newo is a betta.

9 Things About My 9-Year-Old

We gave Owen Corey's old phone for his birthday (for games, not to use as a phone). It's not an ipod, but it's the next best thing.

1. He is creative. He loves to make crafts, draw and design things. I may be a bit biased, but I think he's pretty talented.

2. He loves football and basketball.

3. Reading is not on his list of favorite things to do, but if he has the correct motivation he'll sit and read for a long time. Case in point - he just earned an airsoft gun after three weeks of reading, reading, reading.

4. He is dramatic. Always has been and I think he always will be.

5. He loves his friends, but he doesn't want to follow the crowd. He likes to be a little different. Did you ever see his long blonde hair?

6. He finds great joy in irritating his little brother.

7. He is a collector of treasures.

8. He makes fabulous things out of duct tape.

9. He likes to watch Cake Boss with his mama.

Watch Out Buddy...

...there's a new Cake Boss in town. We are slightly addicted to Cake Boss at our house these days, and it is due to this slight addiction that Owen was convinced he needed a two-tiered fondant birthday cake this year. I gave in to his whimsy, and he decorated his cake like a pro. Above you can see him taking out his aggression on the ball of fondant.

Carter took a turn kneading it.

Placing it on the cake.

My artist at work.

He's already talking about what he wants to do for next year's cake. Maybe he can start his own business ;)

Harms and Skow Boys at Big Creek

I spent this lovely spring break day watching six of my favorite boys get wet and muddy.

On a mission!!

The cutest muddy hands and feet in the world.

My Boys and The Power Team

Many of you know that it has been my prayer over the past year to expose my boys to nonboring events and activities based in the truth of scripture. (They find church very boring at this point in their lives --sorry Pastor Marty.) Last night my folks took them to see The Power Team.

Owen called me last night to tell me they each got a piece of a baseball bat one of the guys broke. And the icing on the cake? They have blood on them. How's that for a nonboring event based in the truth of scripture?!?

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Flaming Skullhead

I'm not sure why I can't get this to post horizontally, but this is what Lewis looked like when I picked him up after a birthday party Sunday. He was very sad when I had to wash it off.
