Corey and I, along with our friends, Dave and Jen, drove 5+ hours to run a 5k obstacle course that left us exhausted and muddier than we have ever been in our lives. (Corey was still cleaning dirt out of his ears a week later.)

You might call it crazy. But crazy just comes with the territory when you are married to Corey Harms. I can't claim I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I pretty much had his craziness figured out before we got married. But if you had told me 12 years ago that I would be doing things like the Warrior Dash along side of him, I would have told you you were crazy.

This is one of the last obstacles (Corey is in the orange shirt). Other obstacles included running over the top of old cars, crossing over a bunch of tires, running through streams, jumping over fire and swimming through a mud pool with barbed wire hung low above so you had to immerse yourself.

This is what we looked like when we completed the race. We then stood with more than a hundred other people as a man with a fire hose sprayed water over us. It was more like a sprinkle and was very unsuccessful in getting us clean. Thankfully, Corey and Dave planned ahead and brought five gallon containers of water and garbage bags. We made garbage bags ponchos and had makeshift showers inside the bag, as another person poured the water in. It was an experience to say the least.

I was only slightly mortified when I looked at myself in the mirror of our downtown Chicago hotel room and noticed my hair was still totally matted with mud. I'm kind of surprised they let us check in :)

Corey and Dave are now talking about a similar race called the Tough Mudder. It's a half-marathon. I think I'll pass on that one.
