Rediscovering Reading

One of the benefits of living in an apartment is the extra time I have to read. Less space and no yard mean less upkeep. Plus, when I lived on a cul-de-sac and knew all my neighbors, I was able to give Lewis a little more freedom outside. Nowadays, if you stop by the apartment, chances are you will find me sitting in my red chair outside while I supervise Lewis playing by the dumpster. :) Yeah, my kid plays by the trash now. Do you have a problem with that? ;)

So here's a list of the books I've read since we moved here.

1. The Birth Order Book - Dr. Kevin Leman. That book has me trying to figure out people's birth orders by their actions. I learned a lot from that book.

2. Hometown Legends - Jerry B. Jenkins. This is a heartwarming small town football novel. Good stuff.

3. Soul Surfer - Bethany Hamilton. I bought this book because two of my children started fighting at Borders bookstore and crumpled the cover (I made them work off the purchase when they got home.) It was a good read. Now we're reading it with the boys at night, and will watch the movie with them when we are done. One of the fun things about it is that Corey and I have been to many of the places she describes in the book. My claim to fame is that we saw Bethany in the Princeville shopping area when we were on Kauai.

4. Wild at Heart - John Eldridge. My second go around with this book. This is the book that helped me figure out my husband. I think all wives should read it at least once.

5. I Survived the Shark Attacks of 1916 - Lauren Tarshis. This is a chapter book that Carter brought home from school. It was really well-written. We're going to get some more books from the series.

6. One Perfect Day - Lauraine Snelling. A novel about the joy and grief that comes with organ transplants. I liked it so much that I picked up another one of her books to read.

7. On Becoming Preteen Wise - Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam. Corey and I are going through this one together. Our kids are getting older. Parenting is changing a bit.

8. Saturday Morning - Lauraine Snelling. Getting ready to start this one.

So there you go. I've read more books in the past 7 weeks than I read all of last year. And I am remembering how much I love to read.
