We were able to take a ski - lift partway up Mt. Crested Butte and then hike for about 1 1/2 hrs to get to the top of the mountain. It was by far my favorite part of the trip and is exactly what I envisioned Colorado to be like. Gorgeous! Carter and Owen had no trouble getting to the top and Lewis did a pretty good job too.
It hailed on us partway up the mountain, so we hid under this rock. Love Carter's fake scared expression :)
Almost to the top.
Heading back down. Look at the storm clouds coming in. Those clouds produced lightning which closed the ski-lift right when we arrived at it, which forced us to hang out in a little rescue building on the mountain and wait more than an hour for some guy in a suburban to come get us and drive us down the mountain on the bumpiest road I've ever been on in my life. After 1/2 hour in that vehicle I think my internal organs were all out of place. It was a fitting end to a trip in which nothing went according to plan.
